Everything is bigger in TEXAS!

We just returned home from about a week's vacation in Austin, Texas. We began our vacation with the Capital of Texas triathlon. This is the triathlon that Chris has been training with Team in Training. He was a mentor this year and two of his mentees participated in this triathlon (the others are participating in Iron Girl at the end of June). This team was smaller than the last team he participated in, but it was still a fun team. Saturday was full of pre-race activities. We went to the Pasta Party, where Meg Brown addressed the (TNT) Teams from all around. She is a phenomenal speaker and also a cancer survivor. She participated in the race, as well. Sunday morning, we woke up VERY early. Chris was supposed to start at 7:39, but his wave did not start until 8:15. I watched from the side of the river until he got out of the water. I moved close to where the bike in/out was so that I could see him on the bike. He had a personal record of 1:11 on the bike, which is awesome! He returned to the transition area and started out on the run. By this time, it was long past hot and humid. As he raced, I kept an eye on the time... when I realized it was around 11 and that he was soon to finish and he was going to finish in under 3 hours, I got SO excited for him. And he finished, in 2:56!!! Our time with TNT ended at the Victory Party, which was at our hotel. It was early (4-7), so we decided to take our party to Shady Grove.

The rest of the week, we spent walking around Austin. We ate LOTS and LOTS of good Mexican food. My favorite was a taco stand called Torchy's. We had breakfast tacos there three days in a row. I discovered bottled sweet tea that was YUMMY. I'm not one for bottled tea (in fact, I hate Nestea), but this was good. Wednesday, we drove to San Antonio for the day. While we were there, we toured the Alamo, ate lunch on the Riverwalk and took a boat tour of Riverwalk. We had a fabulous time, but I am glad to be home!
Enjoy our pictures!!!

Exciting news!!!

Nope... not pregnant...

I'm going to teach gifted next year! I will be at the same school, just in a different role. This is something I've wanted to do for a long time. I always figured it would be something I would do later in life, but an opportunity came up at my school. I interviewed for the position about two weeks ago and yesterday the principal told me I could have the job if I wanted it. SO...

I'm definitely sad about leaving fifth grade. I love the people I teach with and love the kids. But, I am VERY excited about this new opportunity!!!

So I was tagged once again, but this time by my friend Boo Sheep
The rules are below: ~
1- Link to the person who tagged you 2- Post the rules on your blog 3-Write six random things about yourself 4-Tag six random people at the end of your post by linking to their blogs 5-Let each person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment at their blog 6-Let your tagger know when your entry is up

More random things about me:
1. I miss my mom every second of every day. I wish she were still alive to know my husband better (Chris did get to meet her and know her a little bit). I wish that she was still here to help me when I have babies and so that my future children will know what a wonderful woman she was.

2. I am very thankful that my dad found a very special woman. She is a wonderful friend and loving step mom.

3. I envy people that have high metabolisms and can eat whatever they please. I often wonder why God gave me such a love of food, but quite a low metabolism. hee hee

4. Recently I have become obsessed with the Tudors, King Henry VIII and Anne Boelyn. I went to see The Other Boelyn Girl. I had been wanting to read it but it was never at the library when I was. The movie was entertaining and it made me rekindle my love of England's royal history (even though it was mostly fiction). It also sparked an interest in The Tudo
rs, a series on Showtime about King Henry and his many wives. So, I put it on my Netflix list. I look forward to Wednesday evenings because that is the time that I have to watch it. I also just finished reading The Other Boelyn Girl, which was MUCH better than the movie! I highly recommend the book.

5. Earlier today, I was watching The Women's Murder Club (yes I am a junkie) and Chris pointed out something. He loves to watch the shows like The First 48... true life crime shows. I refuse to watch them because I dream about them. BUT I absolutely love to watch the similar fiction stories. Crossing Jordan was another favorite! For my fellow readers out there, the series is based on James Patterson books about detective Lindsay Boxer. It's a good show, but of course, the books are always better.

6. It's no big secret, but I am definitely counting down the last days until summer. Last summer was spent in class working on my specialist degree... well, I just recently graduated and am already planning to do NOTHING (or at least, not very much) this summer! I am looking forward to reading, going to movies, and spending time with my husband, family and friends.

I am tagging the following people: Amy S., Rachel, Cindy, Karla, Heather, and Amy B.

St. Anthony's Triathlon 2008

So, the last weekend in April we headed to St. Petersburg, Florida for the St. Anthony's Triathlon. Chris did an awesome job. He improved his time by about 15 minutes. We had a wonderful weekend. St. Pete is a great town and the weather was beautiful. I hope ya'll enjoy the pictures!
